Reduced Urination and Digestion Issues
When you are properly hydrated your urine should be a straw yellow color, or lighter, and you should urinate several times daily. If you do not drink water, your urine turns dark yellow. You might go several hours -- eight or more --
without urinating. The lack of urine is indicative of having no excess fluids to expel. Infrequent bowel movements are also a sign of dehydration. Water lubricates your digestive tract to keep things moving smoothly. The lack of
fluids dries fecal matter, causing it to stick to the sides of your colon and become difficult to pass.
Dry Mouth, Dry Skin and Lack of Tears
This results in your mouth feeling dry and sticky with little saliva production. When you are properly hydrated, your mouth should be comfortably wet and saliva production should be natural when you eat. Another symptom of not drinking water is no tears when you cry. Without drinking water, the liquids in your tear ducts do not replenish properly. Staying hydrated allows tears to flow plentifully. In early stages of dehydration, your skin might become dry from lack of fluids to keep it moisturized.
Cartilage, which protects and cushions your joints, is composed of 75 percent water. Dehydration of cartilage can cause it to deteriorate and result in joint pain and arthritis. This can also cause spinal pain -- spinal discs, composed
primarily of water for shock absorption, cannot support your vertebrae as well when you do not drink water.
Proper hydration keeps your body energized by providing it with what it needs to function properly. Without drinking water, you will become sleepy more often in the early stages of dehydration. In moderate cases, you will become lethargic and lack the energy to move throughout the day. In severe cases, dehydration can result in coma following lethargy.
Extreme Thirst and Headaches
If you do not drink water, your body will become extremely thirsty in attempt to obtain hydration. When dehydration becomes severe, you might experience headaches ranging from minor to severe. The headaches can be accompanied by lightheadedness and dizziness.
